The health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. The Latin name of lavender is Lavare, which means “to wash,” due to its unusually pleasant aroma.

About Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is extracted mostly from the flowers of the lavender plant, primarily through steam distillation. The flowers of lavender are fragrant and have been used for making potpourri for centuries. Traditionally, lavender essential oil has also been used in making perfumes. The oil is beneficial in aromatherapy and many aromatic preparations and combinations.

Lavender oil blends well with many other essential oils including cedarwood, pine, clary sage, geranium, and nutmeg. Today, lavender essential oil is frequently used in various forms including aromatherapy oil, gels, infusion, lotion, and soaps.

Health Benefits Of Lavender Essential Oil

The various health benefits of lavender essential oil include the following:

Bug Repellent
The smell of lavender essential oil is potent for many types of bugs like mosquitoes, midges, and moths. Apply some lavender oil on the exposed skin when outside to prevent these irritating bites. Furthermore, if you do happen to be bitten by one of those bugs, the lavender essential oil has anti-inflammatory qualities that will reduce the irritation and the pain associated with bug bites.

Induces Sleep
Lavender essential oil induces sleep which is used as an alternative treatment for insomnia. Frequent studies on elderly patients have shown an increase in their sleep regularity when their usual sleep medication is replaced with some lavender essential oil being placed on their pillows. It has a relaxing impact on people; thereby, it often replaces modern medicines for sleep issues.

Relieves Stress & Anxiety
Lavender essential oil has a calming scent which makes it an excellent tonic for the nerves and anxiety issues. Therefore, it can also be helpful in treating migraines, headaches, depression, nervous tension and emotional stress. The refreshing aroma removes nervous exhaustion and restlessness while also increasing mental activity. It has a well-researched impact on the autonomic nervous system, which is why it is frequently used as a treatment for insomnia and also as a way to regulate heart-rate variability. One study showed that people taking tests showed a significant decrease in the mental stress and anxiety, as well as increased cognitive function when they inhaled lavender oil and rosemary oil before taking the test.

Treats Acne
According to dermatologists and aromatherapists, lavender essential oil is one of the most beneficial oils in the treatment of acne, which is a very uncomfortable and embarrassing condition that primarily affects young people as they move through puberty, but can also afflict adults. It is characterized by red, raised sores on the face and body that develop due to a bacterial infection near the sebum gland. When sebum cannot be properly secreted from the sebum glands on the face, it begins to build up, particularly because puberty stimulates extra sebum and bacteria feed off of it, creating a vicious cycle of irritation, infection, and visible sores that can result in serious scarring.

Lavender essential oil inhibits the bacteria that cause the initial infection, helps to regulate some of the over-excretion of sebum by hormonal manipulation and can reduce the signs of scarring after the acne has begun to heal. Adding a small amount of lavender essential oil to other skin creams or ointments can greatly increase the potential for relief and healing.

Relieves Pain
Lavender essential oil is known as an excellent remedy for various types of pains including those caused by sore and tense muscles, muscular aches, rheumatism, sprains, backache, and lumbago. A regular massage with lavender oil can provide relief from pain in the joints. A study done on postoperative pain relief showed that combining lavender essential oil vapor into the oxygen significantly reduced the amount of pain experienced, versus those patients only revived with oxygen after a major surgery.

Stimulates Urine Flow
Lavender essential oil is good for urinary disorders because of its stimulating effect on urine production. Furthermore, it helps in restoring hormonal balance and reducing cystitis or inflammation of the urinary bladder. It also reduces associated cramps with these and other disorders.

Treats Respiratory Disorders
Lavender oil is widely used for various respiratory problems including throat infection, flu, cough, cold, asthma, sinus congestion, bronchitis, whooping cough, laryngitis, and tonsillitis. The oil is either used in the form of vapor or is applied to the skin of neck, chest, and back. It is also added to many vaporizers and inhalers that are commonly used for cold and cough. The stimulating nature of lavender essential oil can also loosen up the phlegm and relieve the congestion associated with respiratory conditions; speeding up the recovery process and helping the body naturally eliminate phlegm and other unwanted material. The vapor of lavender essential oil also has antibacterial qualities which can battle respiratory tract infections.

Hair Care
Lavender essential oil is useful for hair care because it has been shown to be very effective on lice, lice eggs, and nits. Furthermore, lavender essential oil has also been shown to be very helpful in the treatment of hair loss, particularly for patients who suffer from alopecia, an autoimmune disease where the body rejects its own hair follicles. A Scottish study reported that more than 40% of alopecia patients in the study reported an increase in hair growth when they regularly rubbed lavender essential oil into their scalp. Therefore, lavender oil is sometimes recommended as a preventative measure for male pattern baldness.

Prevents Cancer
There is a significant research on the effects of lavender, in combination with other essential oils, as a way to prevent the occurrence of breast cancer in mice. However, this could be an indication of an increased chance of lavender battling other carcinogenic effects and the presence of cancer.

Improves Blood Circulation
Lavender essential oil is also good for improving circulation of blood in the body. Research suggests that aromatherapy using lavender oil has beneficial effects on coronary circulation. It also lowers blood pressure and is often used for hypertension. This means that not only do the organs increase their levels of oxygenation, promoting muscle strength and health, but brain activity can have a noticeable boost, skin remains bright and flushed with blood, and the body is protected from the risks of heart attack and atherosclerosis that is often associated with poor blood circulation.

Aids in Digestion
Lavender oil is useful for digestion because it increases the mobility of food within the intestine. The oil also stimulates the production of gastric juices and bile, thus aiding in the treatment of indigestion, stomach pain, colic, flatulence, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Boosts Immunity
Regular use of lavender essential oil provides resistance to a variety of diseases. Lavender has antibacterial and antiviral qualities that make it perfect for defending the body against rare diseases like TB, typhoid, and diphtheria, according to early research in the 20th century.

Treats Eczema
It is used to treat various skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammatory conditions. It is commonly used to speed up the healing process of wounds, cuts, burns, and sunburns because it improves the formation of scar tissues. Lavender oil is also added to chamomile to treat eczema.

Other Benefits

Other health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to treat leucorrhoea. The oil can also be used to repel mosquitoes and moths, thereby; you may find many mosquito repellents contain lavender oil as one of the primary ingredients.

Word of Caution

As with many other essential oils, pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using lavender essential oil. It is also recommended that patients with diabetes stay away from lavender oil. It may also cause allergic reactions to people that have unusually sensitive skin. Some people may also witness nausea, vomiting, and headaches due to excessive use of lavender oil.

Perhaps most importantly, lavender oil should never be ingested, only topically applied or inhaled through means of aromatherapy or similar activities. Ingestion can cause serious health complications, characterized by blurred vision, difficulty in breathing, burning eyes, vomiting, and diarrhea. So, even if you think that lavender oil is a wonderful cure, don’t get excited and start putting it on your food.

Finally!! This is quality!!
Color: Ivory, Size: 2' x 6' (Double Pelt), Color: Ivory, Size: 2' x 6' (Double Pelt)
I’ve ordered three brands claiming to be luxury sheepskin rugs. I’m returning two today. THIS is the one!! So happy, I just ordered three more . I’m returning two from another brand and I won’t mention their name. Side by side there’s no comparison. The back of this rug is stitched around the edges where the other rugs have raw edges. The other rugs felt OK, but not very soft and really full of static. THIS rug feel silky soft and is noticeably longer and more dense. The other brands I ordered were a little over an inch long(fur). THIS rug ‘s fur is approx 3” long and dense. Sooo silky and plush. The only downside -and the company actually sent a guide, explaining it… is there is a slight yellow tinge. The other rugs are flat out yellow. This company explains that bright white would include toxins like formaldehyde and bleaching powder. So I’m fine w that. Just don’t put it against a bright white wall or fireplace. Otherwise it’s not noticeable. I’m sure I’ll be buying even more to put throughout my home. I could not be happier with this!!! They understood the assignment❤️❤️❤️- also- the price. About the same as the lesser rugs that are going back. LOVE. Puppy does too🤣 Ok. I came back to edit my review. Still positive. I apparently ordered ivory not white. I have two white ones coming Sunday so will report back and show color comparison. I was saying that the white isn’t white white and the company does explain what that entails. Other companies selling same color are VERY yellow and this isn’t. Also no strong smell to it. 👍

Very nice
Color: Ivory, Size: 2' x 6' ((Double Pelt) Patchwork), Color: Ivory, Size: 2' x 6' ((Double Pelt) Patchwork)
Very fast shipping and for the price a nice rug. Has a slight natural odor (not bad) because my dog keeps burying his nose in it and despite me telling him no, he keeps trying to claim it for his bed while stretching out on it. But the odor is nothing that won't go away with a little time and is not too bad. plush enough but not extremely so as I expected for the price point. I'm happy with it. I may order another in a different color, because this is a little whiter than I anticipated. But it is gorgeous and soft. Update, first two white ones came very fast , third which was light brown took nearly a month to get here but is even more gorgeous than the white ones maybe because it was shipped in a huge cavernous box and appeared to come from a different distribution center than the others . See second photo for reference. No odor to speak of on this one and very full . I love it as it is lighter than the online photos and more of the creamy brown that I was hoping for . While waiting for it was frustrating because it took so long , I finally got it and am so very happy with it.

Color: Ivory, Size: 2' x 3' (Single Pelt)
Absolutely amazing and fast shipping, the fur is so thick and fluffy I almost don't want to use it for what I'm using it for, I love it so much, going to use it on top of my bareback pad on my horse to absorbe impaction and give the nomadic saddle pad look! More than happy with it and may order another!

Good Quality for what you pay
Color: Golden Yellow, Size: 2' x 6' (Double Pelt)
I 24/7 'researched the heck out of Sheepskin Blk Fri DEALS, this was the best for the money. I had a feeling this Long-Hair version of Sheepskin rug /piece was possibly not quite the same as stuff I bought in the early '90s...from an ACTUAL Sheep Farm -not the curly densely-packed Lambskin, more the '70's 'Shag-Rug' version. Still- I LIKE IT. It's very WARM & seems to be made well even tho the backing is a trimmed down version of true leather. I use it as a large pad under my easy chair. I got the YELLOW, worried the dye might affect the function but no- it did not and tbh- the Yellow is kind of awesome! A soft glowy SUNNY yellow good to blast you out of Winter DULL! I'm NOT going to attempt to wash this. Brush it- yes. I will get it Dry-cleaned when needed. I DO recommend this Sheepskin.

Hard to say if genuine or faux.
Color: Light Brown, Size: 2' x 3' (Single Pelt), Color: Light Brown, Size: 2' x 3' (Single Pelt)
I was really debating between two brands and decided to get this one since it had more good sounding reviews. I received it and now I'm not 100% sure if this is REAL sheep or just a really well done Faux. I trimmed a few pieces from this rug and my Faux one I got from ROSS and they both bubbled up exactly the same way when burned...But the rug I got from Ross is so much softer and smoother, but the backing is different in the Ross one and definitely a cotton material compared to this Amazon one which is slightly stiff but more suede looking. I also felt a real sheep rug earlier this week (and was what made me interested in buying one—but I wasn't interested in the price tag of the one from the store I found. However, the one at the store even had a tag on the corner stating "Genuine New Zealand Sheep Skin"). I just wish this had a stamp or tag somewhere or something on the piece stating it's "Genuine" like most authentic leather/fur goods have. It is fluffy and soft—but so is my faux rug from ROSS. This piece does have those curls/coils that make it seem more dense and like an actual sheep's coat. It might just be a REALLY low quality product that they're trying to market in an enticing manner. Even the backing looks like cheap cardboard like someone else stated. Either way, most likely keeping it since the price was alot less than the cost of the one I found at the store and I like the creamy beige color I ordered because it gives a more natural look than the stark white fur I originally found. Regardless, it's for my Dog, so I'm not too bothered and if it gets messed up and mangled it won't be such a big deal. Odor in the one I got just smelled like a sheep that's been in the sun all day and dissipated pretty quickly/got covered up once I sprayed it with my dog's fragrance/refresh spray. Creased up from the packaging but nothing a little brushing and shaking couldn't fix. I hope this helped inform you before you purchased. PS: They did send samples of a "Faux" Fur AND "Real" Fur which I thought was kind of neat but the sample coulda been from an actual good quality real fur compared to what they sent...Who knows?
